Wild Horse VFD was created by County Resolution on May 7th, 2001 as County Fire District 12. Wild Horse VFD is currently an ISO 9.
On October 13, 2006, the Wild Horse Volunteer Fire Department was notified by the NM Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department that the Fire Dept. had been awarded a Grant for $100,000 to purchase a new wildland fire brush truck.
On December 5, 2018, the Wild Horse Volunteer Fire Department was notified by the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission's Fire Protection Grant Council that the Fire Dept. had been awarded $100,000.00 to purchase a new 3000 gallon water tender.
